Please convey the urgency of the situation to Council and let them know that we want this problem fixed now.  We don’t want to wait a year or put together a 5-year plan.  If we implement the AAC recommendations now, we can become no kill now and save thousands of pets.

Personalized emails are much more effective than form letters.  In fact, some think form letters do more harm than good.

Here is some sample text you could use, but we urge you to personalize it and make it your own.

I’m writing today to express my strong support for the Animal Advisory Commission’s No Kill Plan.  The Commission’s plan, which will make Austin a “No Kill” City, involves three key elements:  (1) partnering with Austin Pets Alive! to immediately increase adoptions and enhance foster-care and rescue opportunities; (2) saving and using the entire current shelter as an Adoptions Center when the new shelter is built elsewhere; and (3) partnering with Emancipet to enhance spay/neuter outreach efforts.

The lives of thousands of dogs and cats hang in the balance on your decision.  I understand that these are tough decisions but I hope that you will be compassionate to those who cannot speak and enable our city to be proud, now, for making it a priority to save them.

This plan will not only make Austin a No Kill City, but it may even save the City money by increasing revenue from adoptions and permitting non-profit charities to raise even more money to save even more lives.
