On March 11th, 2010, Austin’s City Council voted for a plan to make Austin a no kill city.  Our community celebrated our first no-kill month in February 2011, when the save rate at Town Lake Animal Center, Austin’s only open-admission animal shelter, was 92%.

But there is still work to be done. With the summer months approaching, intake will increase and the save rate will likely decrease. Our new shelter director, Abigail Smith, started on March 15th, 2011 and will be implementing the rest of the no-kill plan throughout 2011.

Here’s how you can help:

  3. Display an Austin No Kill Coalition sticker on your car or business window.
  4. Become a volunteer with an organization working to make Austin no-kill, like Town Lake Animal Center, FixAustin or Austin Pets Alive!
